MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Hockey fans threw teddy bears onto the ice during tonight’s Macon Mayhem game, after the home team scored their first goal.

The stuffed animals will go to local children’s hospitals, hospice homes, and first responder units.

“It’s such a fun tradition in hockey,” said Al Kessler the Vice President of sales with the Mayhem. “I mean you get to throw a stuffed animal on the ice that’s a lot of fun and its just we as a sports team have a very unique avenue to help and support the community.”

The team will also honor first responders on March 26.

Public safety night will include a live band.
